The Hypertrophic osteoarthropathy is a disease that affects the joints and bones. This syndrome is often characterized by thickening of the end parts of the hands and feet. Some common causes include Abscess, Bronchiectasis, Hodgkin's disease, Cyanotic congenital heart disease, Portal or biliary cirrhosis, Cystic fibrosis, Metastasis, Portal or biliary cirrhosis, Ulclerative colitis, Crohn's disease, Bronchogenic carcinoma, Mesothelioma, Emphysema, Gastrointestinal polyposis, Gastrointestinal polyposis, Biliary atresia and Dysentery. In the secondary form of osteoarthropathy, symptoms like digital clubbing, joint pain, and tenderness are frequently traced. In the initial stage the periosteal bone deposition happens in the diaphyses of the tibiae, fibulae, radii, ulnae. Sometimes it also happens in the femora, humeri, metatarsals, metacarpals and phalanges.
Treatment of Hypertrophic osteoarthropathy:
Many medicaton processes have been developed for treating the Hypertrophic osteoarthropathy but the most sensitive and effective is the Radionuclide bone imaging. It is the state in which the associated synovitis often followed with the increased radionuclide uptake in the periarticular region.It has been often found that in the Hypertrophic osteoarthropathy, there is an inflammation reaction with round cell infiltrates leading to the formation of periosteal new bone. The diseases is usually supported by such causes as Estrogens, Circulating Factors, Neurogenic Factors and growth hormone.
