This physical condition is known as bamboo spine as in this condition the spine gets as stiff as a bamboo. Ankylosing spondylitis is also known as Bechterew's disease; Bechterew syndrome; Marie Strümpell disease, Marie Struempell disease and Spondyloarthritis.

Signs and symptoms of Ankylosing spondylitis
Are you aged between 15 and 30 and suffer from a chronic pain in the lower part of your spine? Then you probably have Ankylosing spondylitis. Men are most likely to get affected by the disease than women. You might also have iridocyclitis and photophobia as in more than 40% cases Ankylosing spondylitis have a direct association with these two disease. Iridocyclitis causes pain in the eyes and photophobia increases you sensitivity to light. Mouth ulceration and fatigue are other well known symptoms of Ankylosing spondylitis. Ulcerative colitis, psoriasis and Reiter’s disease are also known as the signs of this disease.
Treatments of Ankylosing spondylitis

Thought there is no complete cure of Ankylosing spondylitis yet, with proper treatment the pain and the problem can be relieved to a great extent. The treatments of Ankylosing spondylitis include physical therapy, exercise and medication. To stay fit and comfortable you need to practice a combination of all the three things. However, for the medication you need to consult the physician. Do not try doing exercise all by yourself as it can lead to trouble. Hiring an expert for exercising would be a better idea. If you can maintain the practice regularly you are likely to get effective results within a few days.

With medication, exercise and a little coping skill you can relieve yourself to a great extent from the chronic pain of Ankylosing spondylitis.
