About Felty's Syndrome:
Felty's Syndrome is a severe complication of rheumatoid arthritis in which a patient faces several problems related to health. It can be a major cause of a long-standing rheumatoid arthritis. There are three major things that denote the presence of Felty's Syndrome. These three symptoms are an enlarged spleen, rheumatoid arthritis, and a noticeable low white blood count. Felty's Syndrome is not a very common disease and it affects less than one percent of patients with severe rheumatoid arthritis.
Signs and Symptoms of Felty's Syndrome:
There are some major symptoms of Felty's Syndrome. Pneumonia is the most noticeable symptom of Felty's Syndrome and in this disease skin infections are also very common. Low white blood count, ulcers in the skin are some of the other symptoms of Felty's Syndrome. As this disease is not much familiar, people sometimes pay no heed to the symptoms of Felty's Syndrome, which is one of the major problems with this disease.
The causes of Felty's Syndrome:
Like the major symptoms of Felty's Syndrome, the causes of Felty's Syndrome are also not known to everyone.
According to medical history, it is noticed that, some patient with rheumatoid arthritis also develops this disease of Felty's Syndrome.
In our body, the white blood cells usually produce bone marrow. In a patient with Felty's Syndrome, an active bone marrow function is seen with the production of white cells in spite of the low number of circulating white blood cells.
The diagnosis process of Felty's Syndrome:
There is no such specific test for diagnosing Felty's Syndrome. Doctors diagnose Felty's Syndrome by checking the presence of the three conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, an abnormally low white blood count and an enlarged spleen (splenomegaly).

Treatment of Felty's Syndrome:
In all the cases of Felty's Syndrome, the treatment is not required. Some of the rheumatoid arthritis disease modifying drugs like methotrexate and azathioprine are also used for the treatment of Felty's Syndrome. A patient with Felty's Syndrome may see some improvement by all the weekly injection of stimulating factor. This stimulating factor increases the amount of white blood cells in the body. There are some other treatment processes for Felty's Syndrome. An operation or surgical removal of the enlarged spleen can also be counted as one of the major treatment methods for Felty's Syndrome.
