People of all age groups are known to be vulnerable to the occurrence of this particular bowel disease. The rectal region gets afflicted by the problem which gradually moves on to cover the whole of the large intestines.
Symptoms and treatments for Ulcerative Colitis

The patient suffering from the problem of Ulcerative Colitis exhibits a number of symptoms. Diarrhea is one of the most common symptoms of the disease. The patients also complain of abdominal pain and fever. Some of the other symptoms of the disease include weight loss, tenesmus, nausea, vomiting, joint pain and gastrointestinal bleeding.

Tests conducted for diagnosing the disease are Colonoscopy and Barium Enema. Various kinds of blood tests are also recommended by the doctors. The treatment for the disease involves controlling the sudden attacks and reducing the inflammation. Corticosteroids are prescribed for the inflammation. Some of the other medicines prescribed for the disease are 5-aminosalicylates and infliximab.
