Paget's disease

As people grow old they become weak physically and mentally and thus easily fall victim to various diseases. There are different types of physical disorders that people often suffer from when they grow old. Arthritis or disorder in the bones and joints is one of the most common problems that people suffer from, specially after the age of 40 years. There are different types of Arthritis that affect people among which one of the most critical is the Paget's disease. If you are above 40 then you should take care of your body to make sure that Paget's disease does not affect you.

While mentioning about Paget's disease it has to be said that the bones inside our body get fragmented and reconstructed constantly to facilitate our physical movement. But when Paget's disease occurs the rate of fragmentation of bones and tissues rises abnormally and when they are reconstructed they lead to deformities. The bones that are reconstructed are softer and more fragile than the previous generation of bones. As a result people become physically weak and fail to perform normal physical activities. Apart from physical weakness, Paget's disease leads to problems like severe pain in the bones and the joints and encourage fractures.

Like many other forms of arthritis, Paget's disease is an autoimmune disorder and can lead to severe consequences. The internal structure of the body becomes so fragile that it becomes difficult for people to move freely. Besides, deformation of the body parts restricts them from performing their activities.
Patients of Paget's disease cannot do any heavy work and need to take extra care for themselves to make sure that they don't get injured anyway. Paget's disease generally affects the bones in the legs and back, the pelvic bones, the hip and the skull. Occurrence of Paget's disease in the skull could be very fatal because it leads to deformation of its shape.

There are several factors that may encourage Paget's disease in an individual. Heredity is considered as a major risk factor for this disease. Besides, Paget's disease often creeps in the body of people due to nutritional deficiency.
However, according to doctors, most common cause of Paget's disease is slow viral infection. Paramyxoviruses likes measles and respiratory syncytial virus often encourage Paget's disease to creep in the body of people.

However, the good thing is that treatment of Paget's disease is possible. Bisphosphonate drugs like Didronel, Actonel and Fosamax are very effective medicines for Paget's disease. Doctors also prescribe Calcitonin tablets because these can effectively slow down the rate of bone loss and growth.
