Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) is a common form of Arthritis that affects lot of people. Polymyalgia Rheumatica is a very critical physical disorder that may occur in any part of the body of an individual.

Like all other types of Arthritis, Polymyalgia Rheumatica is also caused due to the weak immune system in the body of an individual. Polymyalgia Rheumatica is an inflammatory disease that creates major problems in the normal physical movements. The disease is mainly associated with pain in the joints and the muscles, specially in the neck, upper arms, thighs, hips and shoulders. Polymyalgia Rheumatica mainly affects the large weight-bearing bones of the body and thus restricts people from doing in heavy work. The disease is also associated with temporal arteritis which is a very fatal disease in itself.

While mentioning about Polymyalgia Rheumatica it has to be said that unlike the other common forms of Arthritis, this critical disease can occur suddenly. There are thousands of instances, where completely fit people have suddenly fall victim to it. It occurs overnight. You may go to sleep at night with a completely fit body and on the next morning may feel stiffness in your joints and pain in the bones and muscles. All these things happen due to sudden inflammation of the bones, cartilages and the joints. Doctors consider Polymyalgia Rheumatica as a seronegative rheumatic disease and have not been successful to find out any specific cause for it.
Apart from weak immune system, heredity and age are considered as major risk factors for polymyalgia rheumatica. A major percentage of people suffering from this disease have got a family history of Arthritis. As people grow old, the bones, cartilages and the joints suffer from malnutrition which also encourages this disease quite often. Generally, people over the age of 50 years fall victim to Polymyalgia rheumatica very easily.

However, if you are suffering from this disease there is no reason to believe that you can't recover from the problems. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin and ibuoprofen are very effective medicines for Polymyalgia Rheumatica. But you need to be very careful about the side effects of these medicines.
